Kelechi Iheanacho’s place at Sevilla is uncertain as new manager Matías Almeyda prepares to evaluate the Nigerian forward during pre-season, IsaGoal can report.

Spanish outlet Marca noted that Sevilla confirmed the exit of loanees Sambi Lokonga and Saúl Ñíguez, while Iheanacho returns to the squad after a stint at Middlesbrough.

Almeyda, appointed just two weeks ago, has a history with Nigerian football fans—he played for Argentina in the 1996 Olympics final, which Nigeria famously won.

He was also part of the squad in 2002 when Argentina narrowly edged Nigeria 1-0 in their World Cup opener, though he remained on the bench.

Iheanacho, who has a contract running until June 2026, struggled for form last season and was loaned out midway through the campaign.

He failed to score in nine La Liga games, starting five of them, which raised doubts about his future at the club.

However, he made a mark in the Copa del Rey, scoring three goals across two appearances and reminding fans of his ability in front of goal.

“I’m here to compete and contribute,” Iheanacho said in a recent interview, sounding confident about proving himself under the new management.

Sevilla’s pre-season schedule will now be crucial, not just for Almeyda’s tactical plans but also for Iheanacho’s place in the squad moving forward.

How he performs could determine whether he stays in La Liga or looks for a new challenge elsewhere in Europe.
