Manchester United are gearing up to make a move for Emiliano Martinez, once Andre Onana’s exit is finalised, IsaGoal can report.
Talks are expected to begin soon, with Ruben Amorim identifying Martinez as his preferred option between the posts, per Football Insider.
Sources close to United say the club is open to selling Onana for a reduced fee, especially with Ligue 1 side Monaco showing interest. Amorim is reportedly eager to push the sale through and quickly secure a replacement, with Martinez topping the shortlist.
Aston Villa are also said to be open to parting ways with the Argentine goalkeeper and are inviting negotiations. However, no official approach will happen until Onana is out.
Former United chief scout Mick Brown, who has deep ties to the club, explained that the Red Devils are fully committed to landing Martinez, even if it means accepting less than expected for Onana.
“United will take whatever they can get for Onana, then move straight for Martinez,” Brown told Football Insider. “They see him as a major upgrade and are willing to sacrifice to make it happen.”
Brown also confirmed that United plan to work closely with Martinez’s agent Jorge Mendes to fast-track the deal.
Martinez, now 32, is seen as a dependable, high-level option despite his age. The club isn’t concerned about his profile and values his experience—especially following his World Cup-winning campaign with Argentina.
United are just waiting for the right offer to trigger the switch and get talks with Villa underway.
