Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has broken his silence on widespread speculation about his future, revealing a strong desire to continue at the Catalan club.
According to SPORT, the Dutch international told VZ that he intends to renew his current deal with Barcelona, which runs until 2026. While he acknowledged that nothing is final, he expressed confidence in reaching an agreement.
“I think I’m going to renew for Barça,” De Jong said. “I can’t be one hundred percent sure, but if everything goes well, it will be done. My intention is to renew this summer, but we will see what happens. It is a negotiation and you can’t say exactly when. The important thing is that both parties want it, and I think we will reach an agreement.”
De Jong Remains Focused Amid Agent Change Rumours
Reports have emerged suggesting De Jong might be planning to part ways with his current agent, a figure previously seen as an obstacle in contract discussions. However, when asked directly, he chose not to elaborate, stating that his full focus remains on national team duties.
“I can’t talk about my agent. I can’t say anything about that now. Right now, I’m focused on the national team, and then we’ll see,” he said.
Injury Setback and Season Reflections
De Jong reflected on his form this season, noting that he felt at his peak before injury disrupted his rhythm. Despite feeling that his performance level hadn’t drastically changed, he believes the team’s success brought more attention to his efforts.
“Before I got injured, I was in the best moment of my game,” he said. “I don’t think this year I did much better than the previous ones, but the titles we have won and the victories have given more visibility to my game.”
Pain of UCL Exit, Praise for Lamine Yamal
The midfielder admitted that Barcelona’s Champions League semi-final loss to Inter was one of the season’s biggest disappointments.
“It hurt a lot to lose against Inter. We were so close to the final and failing like that was painful. PSG deserved the title this year,” De Jong stated.
He also praised young teammate Lamine Yamal, backing him for Ballon d’Or consideration due to his impressive performances throughout the season.
“That trophy isn’t decided by just one match or a title. It’s about the full season. There’s no doubt that Lamine is a special talent and deserves recognition,” he said.
Future Still in Barcelona?
Despite persistent transfer rumours, De Jong’s statements suggest that he remains committed to Barcelona. Talks are expected to continue over the coming weeks, possibly involving a revised contract that aligns with the club’s Financial Fair Play obligations.
