Manchester United are preparing for a major tactical shift under Ruben Amorim, with the arrival of two Premier League stars expected to reshape the squad ahead of next season.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club has completed the signing of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and is nearing an agreement with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. The combined outlay of over £120m suggests a clear intent to rebuild United’s attacking approach.

Cunha and Mbeumo netted a total of 35 Premier League goals last season. Both are expected to slot into Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 setup, playing behind a lone striker in the two supporting attacking roles. Their additions could prompt major positional changes for current squad members.

Bruno Fernandes, who played deeper at times last season, is likely to shift permanently into central midfield. The Portuguese playmaker demonstrated control and vision in that role and may be trusted with dictating play from deeper areas going forward.

One standout quote from the coaching team noted: “That is the type of attacking threat Amorim wants from players in those positions.”

Amad Diallo is also poised for a position change. Despite a strong campaign, the Ivorian may lose his spot as a number 10 but could feature at right wing-back. His dribbling and versatility make him a valuable option in that role, providing both attacking width and support through the middle.

Should Amad shift wide, Diogo Dalot would remain a direct competitor for that slot, while Noussair Mazraoui may transition to a more central defensive role. The Moroccan full-back showed flexibility last season and could fill in as part of the back three if needed.

United’s transfer activity isn’t expected to stop with Cunha and Mbeumo. A new striker remains on the wishlist after missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea. Further additions may depend on outgoings, with Inter Milan reportedly interested in Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund, who endured a difficult second season, could see his minutes reduced next term. Though not the role he hoped for, the 22-year-old might thrive as an option off the bench, offering energy and movement in the final third.

Amorim’s system depends on adaptability and tactical balance. The summer’s moves reflect that vision, positioning United for a refreshed campaign with renewed competition across the pitch.
