Arsenal are close to finalizing the transfer of Konstantinos Karetsas, the promising Greek midfielder, from Belgian club Genk. According to reports in Greece via the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, negotiations are advanced, with a deal reportedly worth £38 million on the table.

If completed, this transfer would set a new record for a Greek footballer, surpassing Kostas Manolas’s £30 million move from Roma to Napoli in 2019. The agreement includes a loan-back arrangement, allowing Karetsas to remain at Genk for the 2025-26 season before joining Arsenal.

The 17-year-old midfielder has attracted attention from many top European clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester City. His father, Vaios Karetsas, revealed in a Dutch interview that offers from RB Leipzig, Milan, and Manchester City were considered but not pursued, stating, “The only team outside Genk where we had discussions was Ajax.”

Karetsas impressed this season in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and made a mark internationally, scoring in Greece’s 3-0 win over Scotland in March. Arsenal is reportedly active in the transfer market this summer, also pursuing Real Sociedad playmaker Martin Zubimendi, who is expected to move pending a medical.

The club’s transfer plans include adding a top striker, with targets such as Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko still under consideration. Arsenal aims to strengthen its squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
