Simone Inzaghi has been appointed as head coach of Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal, just days after his departure from Inter Milan.
According to AFP, the 49-year-old Italian will lead the Riyadh-based club into the newly expanded Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 15. His move follows a tough end to his Inter tenure, marked by a 5-0 Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
“I am Simone Inzaghi and today begins my story with Al Hilal,” he said in a launch video posted on X, sipping Arabian coffee while pinning the club’s badge to his suit.
The former forward brings experience from guiding Inter to two Champions League finals within three seasons. Though both ended in defeat, he also secured one Serie A title and two Italian Cups during his spell in charge.
Al Hilal welcomed him online with the message, “The Italian genius is here. Welcome, Simone Inzaghi.”
Inzaghi’s arrival adds to the growing list of high-profile names associated with the Saudi Pro League. Al Hilal recently parted ways with Neymar in January due to injury issues, and the squad already includes stars like Ruben Neves and Aleksandar Mitrovic.
There has also been speculation around Cristiano Ronaldo potentially switching from rivals Al Nassr to Al Hilal, while Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes confirmed he turned down a $135 million offer from the club, saying he still wants to “play at the highest level.”
Inzaghi now faces the challenge of reviving Al Hilal’s global ambitions as they gear up to compete against clubs like Inter, PSG, Real Madrid, and Manchester City in the 32-team Club World Cup.
