Former Premier League referee David Coote has taken on a new role far from the football spotlight, working as a delivery driver while serving a UEFA ban, according to The Sun.
The 42-year-old was suspended for 16 months after videos emerged showing him criticizing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and using cocaine.
Coote, who officiated 112 Premier League matches, was also dismissed by the PGMOL following the investigation.
He opened up about his struggles with mental health and drug use, saying, “I want to get on with my life. I’m trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it’s not a new long-term career.”
Now working for courier company Evri near his home in Newark, Nottinghamshire, Coote was recently spotted delivering packages to local residents. One homeowner shared, “He’s delivering packages now. It’s his own downfall, at the end of the day. David got himself into this mess.”
Despite the setback, Coote remains focused on his personal life and well-being. Last month, he completed the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon to raise money for his uncle, who suffers from motor neurone disease.
Friends believe Coote may return to football eventually but acknowledge he needs to support himself in the meantime.
