Manchester United are preparing for a busy transfer window this summer, with several key players expected to exit Old Trafford. Former United captain Gary Neville has identified four players he believes should leave the club immediately.
According to the report on It’s Called Soccer, Neville highlighted Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho as players who need to move on.
The Red Devils have already made significant moves in the transfer market, signing Matheus Cunha from Wolves after activating his £62.5 million release clause. They are also close to securing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo in a £50 million deal, reportedly beating interest from Premier League rivals such as Arsenal, Newcastle, and Tottenham. These attacking signings are expected to reshape manager Ruben Amorim’s frontline.
Neville spoke on the It’s Called Soccer podcast, saying: “Marcus Rashford has to leave for him and the club. I think that ship has sailed and he needs to find himself another club.” He added that Aston Villa’s hesitation to confirm keeping Rashford suggests the end of his path at United. Regarding Jadon Sancho, Neville expressed similar concerns, noting the lack of signals from Chelsea about retaining the player.
Antony’s situation appears different, as Neville believes his loan spell in Spain with Real Betis suits him better. “I think Antony is perfect for Spain… It’s best for Antony and best for the club,” he explained, referencing the different tactical and technical demands of La Liga.
Alejandro Garnacho’s future also looks uncertain after tensions with the club. Neville said: “If players are taking on the manager and if players are questioning the manager in public, the manager has to win. I think Garnacho will leave purely because of that… He’ll probably thrive in Spain and score goals.”
Despite calling for these four players to leave, Neville strongly emphasized the importance of retaining one young talent. Kobbie Mainoo, a product of United’s academy, has impressed Neville enough to be seen as a key player to build around. “We should be building around Kobbie Mainoo in central midfield,” Neville stated. Although Mainoo has had injury setbacks and limited starts recently, Neville believes he has the potential to become a top player for United.
Manchester United’s transfer activity this summer is shaping up to be decisive, with the club balancing new signings and significant departures as they aim to strengthen the squad under Ruben Amorim.
