South Korean football star Son Heung-min has been caught up in a serious extortion attempt after a woman allegedly fabricated a pregnancy in a bid to blackmail him for a large sum of money.
According to Yonhap News, a woman in her 20s and a male accomplice were arrested in Seoul last week after allegedly demanding hundreds of millions of Korean won from the Tottenham Hotspur forward. The pair claimed the woman was pregnant with Son’s child and threatened to go public unless he paid.
Son, who is 32 and currently unmarried with no children, swiftly contacted authorities once the demand was made. The incident is being treated as a criminal matter, with both suspects facing charges related to attempted extortion.
South Korean police confirmed the arrests, with ongoing investigations to determine the full extent of the alleged plot. Reports state the woman claimed the supposed pregnancy dated back to June 2024. Son’s legal team has strongly denied any relationship with the suspect.
The Tottenham captain remains focused ahead of a crucial fixture—the Europa League final. Speaking to TNT Sports about his ambitions with the club, Son said:
“When you marry, the number one will be family, wife and kids, and then football. I want to make sure that while I play at the top level, football can be number one.”
Son has previously dated public figures like Bang Min-ah and Yoo So-young, but he is currently single and has no public plans to settle down during his playing career.
Despite the off-field distraction, Son has maintained his focus on delivering success for both his club and fans. He expressed his hope of finally lifting silverware with Tottenham, describing the missing trophy as the final piece in his decade-long journey at the club.
