England sealed their promotion back to the top tier of the UEFA Nations League on Sunday night thrashing the Republic of Ireland 5-0.

The Three Lions entered the match with the motivation of maintaining their position at the top of Group B2, boosted by a superior head-to-head record against Greece.

However, the half-time score remained balanced at a nail-biting 0-0, leaving their promotion hopes in the balance.

The match turned in England’s favour early in the second half when Ireland’s Liam Scales was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Jude Bellingham in the penalty area.

Harry Kane confidently converted the resulting penalty to give England the lead.

The goals kept coming as Anthony Gordon and Conor Gallagher both scored their first international goals, making it 3-0 before the hour mark.

With the game firmly in England’s control, substitutes Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Harwood-Bellis added further gloss to the scoreline, netting their debut goals for the national team to seal a 5-0 win.

This dominant performance ensured England finished top of Group B2, edging Greece on head-to-head after both teams ended on 15 points.

The victory also secured their return to the Nations League top tier ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s arrival as the new coach.
