England Midfielder Ross Barkley Makes Aston Villa Return

Aston Villa has finalized the return of Ross Barkley from Luton Town on a permanent deal, marking his comeback after a successful loan spell during the 2020/21 season.

The club confirmed the acquisition without disclosing the contract duration or transfer fee.

Barkley’s signing coincided with Villa’s announcement of securing Juventus youngsters Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea for a combined €22 million (£18.6 million, $23.6 million).

Iling-Junior, a 20-year-old English forward, joined for an initial €14 million with potential add-ons of €3 million.

Meanwhile, Argentine midfielder Barrenechea, 23, arrived for €8 million with similar add-ons.

The signings followed the departure of Douglas Luiz to Juventus, with the Brazilian midfielder leaving Villa to sign a reported £42.3 million deal spanning five years.

Villa’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season earned them a Champions League berth, but compliance with the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) necessitated Luiz’s sale.

The PSR permits clubs to incur losses up to £105 million over three years, prompting strategic decisions by manager Unai Emery.
