Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has made history by setting a new record for the most minutes played by a Nigerian player in the Premier League. The 27-year-old surpassed the previous record held by former Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, after playing the full 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday.
Iwobi has now accumulated an impressive total of 16,289 minutes played in the English top-flight, surpassing Mikel’s previous record of 16,218 minutes.
Prior to joining Fulham, Iwobi had successful stints with Arsenal and Everton. The versatile midfielder has been a key contributor to Fulham’s campaign this season, scoring five goals in 25 league appearances.
Having joined Marco Silva’s side from Everton last summer, Iwobi has quickly established himself as an integral part of Fulham’s midfield.
His technical skills, work rate, and ability to contribute both defensively and offensively have made him a valuable asset to the team.
