21-Year-Old Urged to Stay at Leverkusen Amid Interest from PL Giants

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Germany and Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has advised Florian Wirtz to ignore interest from Manchester City and focus on his development at Bayer Leverkusen.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is one of Europe’s most promising talents, attracting attention from Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool, as well as LaLiga powerhouse Real Madrid.

Bayern Munich also considered a move for Wirtz, but their interest faded after Vincent Kompany became their new manager.

Wirtz had a stellar season last year, scoring 18 goals and providing 20 assists, playing a crucial role in helping Xabi Alonso’s side win the Bundesliga title.

He has started the current season strongly with two goals and one assist in just two Bundesliga matches.

His impressive performances have kept top European clubs interested, with reports suggesting that a bid of £130 million might be needed to pry him away from Leverkusen.

Despite the interest from elite clubs, Matthaus believes that a move might not be in Wirtz’s best interest at this point in his career.

“It would be best for him to prepare for the 2026 World Cup in a familiar environment,” Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany.

Matthaus added that staying at Leverkusen would benefit both Wirtz and the Bundesliga.

The former World Cup winner mentioned that Wirtz’s experiences in the Champions League and Bundesliga would make him even stronger.

Moreover, the midfield positions at clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool are highly competitive, meaning that consistent playing time is not guaranteed.
