Teenager Lamine Yamal scored twice as Barcelona extended their perfect start to the La Liga season with a 4-1 win over Girona.

The 17-year-old winger continues to play a pivotal role in Barcelona’s quest to reclaim the domestic title from Real Madrid.

Yamal opened the scoring on the half-hour mark after dispossessing Girona’s David López and added a second goal just seven minutes later.

There was a moment of controversy when Barcelona’s Iñigo Martínez appeared to handle the ball in the box, but after a VAR check, the referee overturned the penalty.

Early in the second half, Dani Olmo extended Barca’s lead with a quick goal, and Pedri added a fourth after rounding the goalkeeper in the 64th minute.

Girona managed a late consolation goal through Cristhian Stuani, but the match was otherwise comfortable for Barcelona, despite Ferran Torres receiving a late red card for a high challenge on Yaser Asprilla.

With five wins from five, Barcelona remains top of the table ahead of their Champions League clash against Monaco.
