Graham Potter has revealed why Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was absent from Chelsea’s FA Cup squad against Manchester City, stating the striker was unable to play due to a back injury.
Aubameyang made an appearance for five minutes on the pitch after Raheem Sterling was forced off but Potter chose to replace him at half-time with Omari Hutchinson.
Upon his exclusion from Sunday’s team-sheet, fans populated social media speculating as to whether it was due to his performance against City in their Premier League meeting just days before.
However, Potter cleared up any potential rumours by explaining how Aubameyang had missed the game because of a back injury.
The 4-0 defeat meant Chelsea were dump out of the competition and their FA Cup run was over.
Naturally, disgruntled Chelsea fans chanted in frustration afterwards, calling out for Roman Abramovich and now ex-boss Thomas Tuchel’s return – with which Graham could sympathise all too much.
