Tottenham Hotspurs’ Europa Conference League tie against Rennes has been called off after a Covid-19 outbreak at the Premier League club.

The club said on Wednesday evening the game had been called off, but Rennes disputed the statement saying the decision had not yet been confirmed by UEFA.

According to report it is revealed that eight first team players and five staff at Tottenham had tested positive for Covid-19.

The French club said the decision to call off the game had been taken unilaterally by the London club that they wanted to play the match as scheduled, but on Thursday morning UEFA told media that the fixture would not go ahead.

According to UEFA regulations matches cannot be postponed unless a club has a fewer than 13 players or no registered goalkeeper available.

While the North London outfit are already facing a busy festive schedule leaving no obvious window to rearrange the fixture, however a new date for the fixture will be communicated soon.

While the new date for the game is not known yet, Spurs need a victory against the French outfit to finish top of the group and qualify for the last 32.
