Victor Osimhen could still feature for Nigeria at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon after Napoli announced the striker will resume training next week.
“From next week, he will be back on the pitch and we will do some new tests,” announced Napoli doctor Raffaele Canonico.
Initial diagnosis was that Osimhen will be sidelined by as many as three months after surgery for his facial fractures.
That would effectively rule him out of the AFCON, which begins January 9, 2022, in Cameroon.
The 22-year-old was the Eagles top scorer in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with five goals.
He also scored four goals to qualify the team to the 2022 World Cup playoffs in March.
