According to Sportsmail On Tuesday, July 5, Southampton are hoping to fend off competition from the likes of Premier League new boys Nottingham Forest and Fulham to land the Nigerian.
Talks have accelerated with the two clubs now on the verge of an agreement on a deal in the region of £10m, including add-ons.
The 25-year-old, who moved to Ibrox from Charlton in 2019, has a £10m release clause in his Rangers contract.
That deal has just one year left to run but the Scottish side was hoping to secure a package that was equal to his clause value.
The Nigeria International enjoyed an excellent season in which he was one of Rangers’ most used players, making 57 appearances, and scoring nine times including in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt.
