Victor Osimhen made headlines on Wednesday night as he surpassed a long-standing club record at Galatasaray, scoring his 35th goal of the season during their 3-0 Turkish Cup final win over Trabzonspor.
According to Soccernet.ng, Osimhen’s goal eclipsed the 34-goal mark set by Brazilian striker Mário Jardel during the 2000–01 season. Jardel, who scored his record tally in his debut campaign after joining from FC Porto, watched Osimhen’s decisive moment unfold on screen and applauded with joy.
A widely shared video on social media captured Jardel clapping in support as Turkish winger Yunus Akgün delivered the assist that led to Osimhen’s clinical finish. The Nigerian striker’s effort sealed Galatasaray’s 19th Turkish Cup title and put him ahead of every foreign player in the club’s scoring history.
