Manchester City have confirmed their retained and released list for the 2024-2025 season, with Tai Sodje among the players set to depart the club.
According to All Nigeria Soccer, Sodje will officially leave Manchester City on a free transfer when his contract expires on June 30, 2025.
Tai Sodje is well-known for his football lineage. He is the nephew of former Super Eagles defenders Efe Sodje and Sam Sodje, along with former striker Akpo Sodje.
During the 2020-2021 campaign, Sodje made a strong impression by finishing as Manchester City’s top scorer in the U18 Premier League, netting 19 goals in 22 appearances. His contributions helped the club achieve a clean sweep of Premier League titles that season.
The forward joined Manchester City at U12 level and steadily progressed through the youth system. He made his competitive debut for the U18s in February 2020 during a Premier League Cup victory against Reading.
Unfortunately, injuries affected his development in recent years, restricting him to only 19 appearances in Premier League 2 over four seasons. Despite these setbacks, he also gained experience playing in the EFL Trophy, UEFA Youth League, and FA Youth Cup.
Manchester City have retained Femi Fapetu, Justin Oboavwoduo, and Michael Okeke for the upcoming season.
“His goals helped Manchester City become the first club to claim a clean sweep of Premier League titles in the same season.”
