Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has been fined for his controversial comments about referee Felix Zwayer but, escaped a ban punishment.
The England international was angered by two contentious penalty decisions that went against them in Saturday’s Der Klassiker tie with Die Roten, referencing Zwayer’s involvement in a match fixing scandal during a post match interview.
While Bellingham will be free to play in Dortmund’s game at Bochum on Saturday, the club and player have accepted the punishment handed to him by the German FA on Tuesday.
According to the statement by the German FA: “The sports court of the German Football Association (DFB) fined Jude Bellingham €40,000 in single judge proceedings after the DFB control committee had brought charges for unsportsmanlike behavior”.
However, while Bellingham has been fined by DFB, his comments are been investigated by German police after a criminal complain was filed.
