Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria could soon play together at Inter Miami. The two, who were teammates on the Argentina national team for 17 years, may now continue their partnership in Major League Soccer.
According to The Times, Messi’s Miami club is also considering a move for Kevin De Bruyne. However, the Belgian star’s high wages could complicate the transfer to MLS.
De Bruyne’s contract with Manchester City expires this summer, making him a free agent. Despite interest from Inter Miami, his £400,000-a-week salary might prove too high for the team. As a result, he would need to accept a significant pay cut to join Messi, Sergio Busquets, Luis Suarez, and Jordi Alba in Florida.
If De Bruyne proves unattainable, Inter Miami might shift their focus to Di Maria. The 37-year-old forward is also approaching free agency as his deal with Benfica expires. Di Maria has reportedly started looking at homes in Miami but may choose to stay in Portugal for one more year before returning to the Americas.
Di Maria is said to have already looked at houses in Miami, but would prefer to spend another 12 months in Portugal before considering any return to the Americas.
