The Ghana vs Nigeria World Cup playoffs first leg scheduled for March 25 may now be hosted by neighbouring Benin Republic after it emerged that Ghana cannot provide a suitable venue for the clash.
According to reports from Ghana, the original match venue of the Cape Coast Stadium has been rejected by CAF after the pitch was seriously damaged during the country’s 65th-anniversary celebrations.
Morocco is said to be another option for Ghana to play the first leg.
Nigeria filed a petition to CAF on the state of the pitch and a CAF/FIFA inspection delegation is now in Ghana to follow up on this.
CAF had earlier rejected an application by Ghana for the match to be moved to the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
CAF said that the application was turned down because it fell outside the agreed deadline.
The return leg of the World Cup playoffs between the two West African rivals will be played on March 29 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
