The Catalonian police have arrested three individuals following the stabbing of Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona player Lamine Yamal, in a car park in Rocafonda, near Barcelona.
Nasraoui was rushed to a nearby hospital late Wednesday with multiple stab wounds.
He remains in serious but stable condition.
While police initially suggested that the arrested individuals would face attempted homicide charges, they later stated the investigation is ongoing, and it is too early to confirm charges.
The police mentioned that the stabbing followed an argument between Nasraoui and several others in Rocafonda.
According to Spanish newspaper El País, the altercation began earlier when Nasraoui was sprayed with water from a balcony while walking his dog.
This is not Nasraoui’s first confrontation; last year, he was fined €546 for insulting and throwing eggs at a far-right Vox party tent set up for rallying votes in Mataró.
Local residents, however, defended Nasraoui’s actions, pointing out that the anti-immigrant party had set up the tent to provoke residents.
The stabbing incident comes a month after Nasraoui gained national attention for supporting his son’s impressive performance during Euro 2024, where Yamal played a pivotal role in helping Spain secure its record fourth European Championship title.
Yamal’s father also shared a viral photo of Lionel Messi holding Yamal as a baby, further drawing attention.
Celebrating his achievement, Yamal made a gesture signaling “304,” the last digits of Rocafonda’s postal code, highlighting his pride in his diverse, working-class neighborhood.
