Pele, the three-time World Cup-winning football legend, sadly passed away on Wednesday, due to complications from colon cancer.

His hospital confirmed that the cause of death was the failure of multiple organs, which was attributed to his previous clinical condition.

The Brazilian Football Confederation released a statement expressing their sorrow, honoring him as much more than just an athlete and reminiscing on his triumphs in sports and life.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, famously known as Pele, skyrocketed to star status when, aged 17 years old, he helped Brazil win the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.

With sheer determination as his driving force, he scored a powerful one goal against Wales in the quarterfinals, followed by a Hat Trick against France in semifinal and two goals in a remarkable 5-2 victory over hosts Sweden in the grand finale.
