The head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Antonio Conceiçao, has revealed reasons for his side’s loss to Egypt in the semifinals of the 2021 AFCON.
The Portuguese tactician while speaking at the aftermath of Cameroon’s penalty shootout loss to the Pharaohs of Egypt late on Thursday.
Egypt, record winners of the continent’s football showpiece, booked a date with the Teranga Lions of Senegal after defeating the hosts of the competition 3-1 in a penalty shootout following a barren one hundred and twenty minutes.
Conceiçao while commending his side’s gallant performance, blamed the loss on the fatigue his players suffered during the tie.
“The team played well during the 90′ trying to score goals but we didn’t succeed. We are as sad as the 27 million Cameroonians, but I think the Egyptian team knew how to counter us. We’re sad but it’s the reality.”
“The players felt some signs of fatigue at the end of the match, especially after a very physical and intense first half. We had tried to save our energy to counter the opponent but in vain.”
